Whether welcoming a guest traveling to New York for the first time or a returning local, the team at Nerai often get asked the question, “What is your favorite dish on the menu?”. It’s a tough one, with dishes ranging from fresh fish, and crisp salads to tender, juicy lamb and decadent duck moussaka.
While you may choose Nerai as you are craving traditional Greek fare such as Horiatiki Salad or Lavraki, you would be surprised to know that one of our most talked about dishes is our Astakomakaronada also known as, Greek Lobster Pasta.
Our Lobster Pasta has attracted much press in the last few months. A recent article on Chowhound.com "One of NYC’s Best Pastas Doesn’t Come from Italy" shared,“If you’re headed to New York in search of the best pasta, you may want to bypass Little Italy and head straight up to Midtown’s Nerai, an upscale Greek restaurant offering one of the most decadent dishes I’ve sampled in recent memory”
The article goes on to share, “Anchored in a brandy cream sauce with notes of tarragon, red peppers (not tomatoes!), and carrots, this Mediterranean dream is then topped with fresh lobster meat and served on squid ink linguine—a harmonious blend of heavy ingredients with the lightness of seafood, paired flawlessly with any of the menu’s mineral-forward Greek white wines”.
Our Executive Chef, Moshe Grundman, shares “We elevate the traditional Greek dish with a squid ink linguine and also use a red pepper and carrot reduction to add the perfect amount of natural sweetness to the dish.”
Our general manager, Michael Coll adds, “When you think of date night pasta, there’s one romantic scene that always comes to mind and that’s the scene from Lady and the Tramp.” Our Greek-style lobster pasta is the best dish two could share on a date night and reenactments are always welcome.”
Perfectly said, this dish is the perfect dish to share, but we understand if you’d rather have it all to yourself - it’s that good.
Our Lobster Pasta was also featured on Parade.com article “Ridiculously Good Pasta Recipes for When You’re So Over the Holiday Spread”. Fortunately, Chef Grundman shared our Lobster Pasta recipe with both Chowhound.com and Parade.com.
